Committee Summary
Background guideHawkins used to be a calm, suburban town in Indiana, all the way until the disappearance of Will Byers in 1983. Ever since, nothing has truly been normal. Beneath the seemingly unchanged town lies a history of secret government experiments, supernatural creatures, and a parallel dimension known as the Upside Down. Although Hawkins has gone through brief periods of peace, strange events have once again started to disturb the town. People are going missing left and right, while unusual activity continues around the Starcourt Mall. Power outages, strange signals, and unexplained events have caused residents to grow suspicious, and the people of Hawkins may have to confront the possibility that the dangers they thought were gone have returned. With limited information and very few people they can fully trust, the Hawkins Town Council must investigate the disappearances, uncover what is happening beneath Starcourt Mall, and determine how to respond to the growing threats surrounding the town. Even while the council convenes, new problems continue to emerge, making it harder to separate rumor from reality. Delegates will have to investigate clues, work with—or against—other members of the council, and decide how far they are willing to go to protect Hawkins. Above all, they must confront one of the most difficult questions facing the town: how much of the truth should the public actually know?
Committee Staff

Head Chair
Raunak Maity
Hello everyone. My name is Raunak Maity, and I am a senior at Vista del Lago. This is my fourth year participating in Model UN, and I am excited to serve as your Head Chair for Specialized 1. I have previously chaired at ARCMUN and VMUNC and have participated in BMUN and DMUN, winning national-level awards. I am also the Vice President of the Vista Model UN club and previously served as its secretary. Outside of MUN, I enjoy building Legos, hanging out with friends, watching sports, and playing video games. If you are a newer delegate, remember that VMUNC is a low-stakes conference. The best way to improve at MUN is to participate as much as possible, so do not be scared to talk. Stay active, raise your placard, and ask my fellow chairs or me any questions. I cannot wait to see you all debate!

Vice Chair
Sarah Jeenaraj
Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Jeenaraj, and I am a senior at Vista del Lago. This is my third year participating in Model UN, and I will be your Vice Chair for Specialized 1. I have participated in many VMUNC and DMUNC conferences and have won awards. Outside of Model UN, I enjoy hanging out with friends, listening to music, thrifting, and going to new places. My advice for new delegates is to try new things. VMUNC is a beginner conference where you should put yourself out there and test things out. Do not be afraid to talk as much as you can, and most importantly, stay confident. Please ask any questions; VMUNC is a welcoming space. I am excited to meet everyone and wish you the best of luck!

Vice Chair
Anushka Reddy
Hello! My name is Anushka Reddy, and I am a senior at Vista del Lago. This is my fourth year in Model UN, and I am eager to be one of your Vice Chairs for Specialized 1. I have previously chaired VMUNC and attended conferences including DMUNC, BMUNC, and VMUNC, where I have received awards. Outside of MUN, I love listening to music, embroidering, thrifting, and dancing. For newer delegates, this is not a collegiate conference. Use VMUNC to practice for upper-level conferences and step outside of your comfort zone. This is a great place to learn basic MUN procedure and how to work with other delegates. Do not be afraid, trust yourselves, and do not forget to have fun. Ask us any questions, because the chairs are here to help. I look forward to seeing you at VMUNC!
